Say hello to our Instagrammer of the week, @ainsleywest1! Having lived the last 20 years in British Columbia, Ainsley shares with us her favourite places around our province. Have a peak!
We visit family in Nelson BC twice a year. Nelson is a ski town in the Kootenays, with people from all over the world visiting Whitewater ski resort. This fantastic fence is made from old skis – you pass it on the way up the mountain.
We love Tofino all year round…this time we visited in November. These guys are having a deep conversation about the waves. The rest of the day will consist of surfing (husband and kids), walking the beach and taking pictures (me), a hot tub to warm up and dinner out…probably fresh local seafood. My favourite restaurant is Shelter, by the way!
Deep Cove, my home, is a beautiful little community on Indian Arm, a glacial fjord that extends north from Vancouver’s Burrard Inlet. Deep Cove offers many water activities, hiking, world class mountain biking, and skiing on Mt Seymour in the winter… and of course Honey’s Donuts, best donuts around.
These Nelson boathouses have been down by the lakeside for many years and they are in all different colours and states of repair. I love them because it’s a happy busy community in the summer and quiet place to wander in the winter.
The Anarchist Summit is just outside of Osoyoos, heading east, and from there you have the most beautiful view of the mountains and the lake. In winter the hazy blues are just gorgeous.
This photo of my family paddle boarding was taken in July on Hornby Island, one of my favourite places in the whole world. We have been going to Hornby for 12 years and it is a beautiful island with large shallow beaches. This picture was taken on Whaling Station Bay beach at sunset around 10 pm! Can’t wait to go back this summer!
This pic of my son jumping was taken in August on Kootenay Lake. We rented an old boat in Kaslo for the whole family and we cruised slowly up and down the lake for the day. This part of the lake is deserted and there are white sand beaches and mountains and some of the most amazing scenery I have seen in BC.
“I grew up in Toronto, but came out west 20 years ago and never left. I love to travel and explore with family, friends, and our dog Kaia , and I love anything to do with the ocean. I enjoy taking pictures of any and all of the above. I feel so lucky to live in British Columbia, and some of my favourite places are Nelson, Tofino, Hornby Island, and of course my home, Deep Cove, on the north shore of Vancouver.”
