It’s no surprise that the staff at Destination British Columbia love BC. So we figured it was time to introduce them. Starting every week, we’ll feature one of our staff members who will share their favourite places and spaces in BC.
This week’s featured staff member is: Kate Crothers, Marketing Communications Coordinator
1. What’s your favourite place to visit in BC and why?
As a Vancouver girl, my favourite place in BC is the Spanish Banks Beach. I have lots of memories of walking along the ocean searching for seashells, and of eating fish and chips in the sand with my family.
3. How would you spend 48 hours in _________?
I would visit the Okanagan. I’d start in Kelowna and taste my way through some of the many amazing BC wineries, heading south through Summerland to stop for lunch. Sated with lunch on the lake, I’d head towards Penticton and continue tasting an array of BC VQA choices, from sparkling wines to crisp, dry Rieslings, earthy Pinot Noirs to robust Cabernet Francs. Day two is a meandering bike ride from Penticton down the road to the Naramata Bench, wine tasting and touring via bicycle with many delicious stops for artisanal cheese, local bread, organic coffee, and fresh cherries, culminating with a charming picnic overlooking Okanagan Lake.
4. Which BC place do you think is a hidden gem?
The Similkameen Valley, with towns like Keremeos and Cawston, is beautiful and full of fresh fruit and amazing organic bounty through the growing season. Cute mom-and-pop wineries dot the windy landscape with tall valley walls, known for blowing pests away; it’s known as the organic capital of Canada!
