This past month I had the privilege of photographing that wonderful feeling of nostalgia, as I went on a Christmas sleigh ride for the first time since I was kid in eastern Canada. It was comforting to know that the romance of a true Canadian winter can still be found, and it’s here at Spring Lake Ranch near 100 Mile House in the heart of British Columbia’s Cariboo Country.
Whether you are a honeymoon couple, a family, or a group of friends looking for an fun winter experience, you can enjoy the warm hospitality of your hosts, John and Myrna Barkowsky. Together they invite you on to their ranch and into their home to enjoy all the winter facilities they offer; cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tobogganing, or skating on their outdoor rink.
At the end of your sleigh ride, or your day of winter fun, you are invited into their home. Here, beside a beautifully decorated Christmas tree, a crackling fire, and a view overlooking Spring Lake, a hot drink together with memories of a fun time spent with friends, is the perfect way to end you day.
Winter in the Cariboo Chilcotin; you can’t beat it!
