The ten-year Destination Development Strategies for this region were formed through an iterative, consultative, and collaborative process which started in 2016. This region includes four primary planning areas: the Columbia Valley, the Highway 1 Corridor, the Highway 3 Corridor, and the West Kootenay and Revelstoke areas. The region is inclusive of Rossland and Revelstoke in the west, Creston along the US border in the south, Golden in the north and Sparwood along the Alberta border in the east. The region also includes two First Nations.
Tourism into this region of the province is strong during the summer and winter seasons with the main tourism drivers via Fernie, Nelson, Revelstoke and Golden. The key activities driving visitation to this region are outdoor adventure experiences and soft, outdoor activities as well as festivals and events. Notable highlights of this region are the iconic National Parks and the great variety of BC Parks.
