This April, Destination BC launched Love For BC, our first-ever video series designed for IGTV where locals tell their own stories – specifically, their pride of place and love for where they live. We set out to showcase diverse voices, highlighting everything from an adventurer’s passion for the local mountains to an Indigenous entrepreneur’s deep connection to the land.
Because we were unable to send film crews, we devised a contact-less system that provided equipment to assist with filming, alongside guidelines and best practices for capturing optimal content. The result? Raw, heartfelt and unpolished stories that combine video shot on people’s phones with existing imagery and footage.
Each tone is different, because every story is different. From the start, we’ve seen overwhelmingly positive engagement from our audience.
Our first season will feature eight videos – and work for Season 2 is already underway!

Along with the positive feedback from our community, our video subjects have also been feeling the love! Darrin Rigo from Prince George shared his experience:
“I wanted to send a note of thanks for choosing me to be a part of the Love for BC series.
The response from the community has been incredible; I’ve gotten about 100 DMs of people who have seen it (old classmates, fellow photographers, friends, city councillors, you name it), and all have expressed gratitude for reflecting PG in such a positive way. It meant a lot up here.
Lastly, I received a really cool DM from someone who explained that she is a family friend of the person who built those “cute little benches.” They were made by the husband of a woman named Mary Clark (built in her memory, as she loved that hike dearly). Anyways, she’s going to make sure he sees the feature. It’s the little things, eh?”
